2010 First Base Rankings

After looking at the catcher position it's time to move on to the power position and figure out who comes in second. The best of the power here will be gone by the middle of the second round so once they are gone you can wait a little bit to jump.

1. Albert Pujols - It goes without saying he is the best in baseball right now. When you consider he stole 16 bases last year he should require the first pick and your next pick.

2. Ryan Howard - The next few could be argued, but I put Howard first for his consistensy with homers and his lineup helping him with his awesome RBI totals.

3. Mark Teixeira - Thanks to Yankee Stadium Tex finally looks to put a few 40 homer seasons together. This makes sure he stays in the top 5 for the next few years.

4. Prince Fielder - He could pass all the way to number 2 due to his batting average, but I like Howard and Tex to get more RBI due to lineups next season than Fielder in Milwaukee.

5. Miguel Cabrera - He also suffers the poor lineup curse and can't hit for as much power as Fielder. He still is only 27 years old though so who knows what happens this year.

6. Mark Reynolds - My man crush for 2009 is now first base eligible, but makes a better third basemen and his ranking there would have him off the board earlier. This is just icing on the cake for position flexibility.

7. Adrian Gonzalez - Imagine what he could do if he was freed from the shackles of Petco Park. He hit only 12 homers in Petco and 28 on the road. Take a chance that maybe he doesn't finish 2010 in SD.

8. Justin Morneau - Morneau has built a career off the RBI stat and I usually don't trust him, but looking at Target Field it's tough to know what to expect. None of the dimensions are drastically different, but Left and Center have come in several feet. He is not a straight pull hitter and could add a few homers in 2010.

9. Kevin Youkilis - The Greek God of Walks surprised me in 2009 by topping 25 homers again. He is now entering his early 30's so don't expect anything better, but with third base eligibility he has great flexibility.

10. Pablo Sandoval - If only San Francisco would let him catch 10-20 games he would be so much better, but with a nick name like Kung-Fu Panda you can't go wrong. He also has third base eligibility so can really help your lineup.
