I was asked to comment at The Herald Bulletin about the topic of Adam Lind as Sleeper of the Year. I think the top three sleepers on offense this year were Adam Lind, Aaron Hill and of course Mark Reynolds. This is Adam Lind's hometown paper as well.

Who do you think was the sleeper of the year?

My #1 choice would be Aaron Hill. My auction draft I got Werth, Verlander, and Justin Upton really cheap this year so I might consider these guys sleepers by my definition.

Of the names listed, I think it comes down to Hill or Lind. Every other name had at least some publicity or success behind them, though Werth had yet to really get his shot at playing every day until late last year. I would definitely call the performances of Reynolds, Verlander and Upton pleasant surprises, but not as unexpected as the others, which to me would define a sleeper. When you look at his pre-concussion season, Hill's season isn't jaw-dropping either, but considering he went undrafted in MANY leagues, you could say no one expected him to outperform almost every 2nd Baseman in the game. As I drafted Hill in two leagues, I'd have to vote Lind as the top sleeper (he WAS on my draft lists, but I never needed the extra OF this year)

Maybe there should be a more definitive difference between a sleeper and just some guy who overperformed? Perhaps the percentage of them being drafted? For example - Derrek Lee pretty much blew away all predictions this year, but he's still drafted high among 1st basemen, so it wasn't as if he was a sleeper.

That's my feeling as well.

Lind had some expectations, but there's nothing saying Aaron Hill woudl have ever pulled a Chase Utley impersonation. That shocked me over everyone.
