The first thing I noted was a story on ESPN yesterday. Ryan Braun and Matt Lindstrom are both headed to get MRIs and could be problems early on. I still think this is a solid squad, but something to keep in mind. I am so glad to see these readers getting Votto as a UTIL hitter.

Timothy's question has to do with some weird players getting dropped and should he pick them up.
Also, a couple of players have already been dropped by 2 teams which I find startling - Justin Upton, Cameron Maybin and Edwin Encarnacion. Should I pick these guys up and if so which wavier priority should I put them in and who should I drop.If you are in any league that Justin Upton is available pick him up tight away. I was quite shocked to see any of these guys available though. At this point I can say that he should drop Gavin Floyd for Upton, but his lack of speed could do well with an addition of Maybin. I would still go with Upton since he won't be starting either right away and Upton is the better talent for 2009.
His next request had to do with his catching situation.
Just one additional question - Ramon Hernandez and Yadier Molina and Chris Synder are still available. Kelly Shoppach is having a bad spring training according to Lenny. What would be your advice on my catching situation?This is a tough call since I see Shoppach maxing out around 400 AB's, but in this single catcher league with a small bench it's tough to carry a backup to rotate in. At the same time his numbers will exceed the others in those 400 AB's for homers and be close in R and RBI. I would stick with Shoppach until it is known if he won't see enough game time.

1) Defintiely grab Upton.
2) Don't drop Gavin Floyd. Trade him. Someone will overpay for him. You should know better :)
Hmm... It's a hard call who I would drop to make room. I don't know what I'm missing, but nothing I've read or heard makes me feel Upton is worth replacing any of your players (except Cruz. They're both gambles I guess). I know he's a hot commodity, but it's not like your team has any major gaps aside from SB's.
ReplyDeleteAnd, because I don't know the best places to look up this info... What's the word on Shoppach's playing time? Are they still putting V-Mart at First? Or is one of them DH'ing?
