Some of these guys will gain 1B during the year but they all start 2009 with only UTIL or DH availability. This list is short as even #5 should be ignored in all drafts.
2009 DH Rankings for 5x5 Leagues
1. David Ortiz - The decline is coming, but I think he has one or two very good seasons left in him. He will always be strong in RBI's in the Red Sox lineup so just watch his power in spring.
2. Jim Thome - I can see another 30 homer season from Thome, but the average is starting to slip more each season. He should be good for 30/90/90 though.
3. Gary Sheffield - He's not going to be a great play in 2009 with his injuries piling up, but the fact that he can still steal 10 bases helps his value.
4. Travis Hafner - I don't think we'll see Hafner hit 30 homers again, but he could surprise. He's going to go pretty late, so he might be worth a shot.
5. Matt Stairs - Unless you are in a very deep league you should ignore the DH only guys after Hafner. Stairs really won't top 15 homers and his playing time has left since heading to the Phillies.
